A single cylinder lock, whether it be a cylindrical, mortise, or rim design, has a single cylinder that operates the lock from the exterior side. The interior trim normally has a push button or thumbturn that operates the lock from the inside. A storeroom or standard classroom function lock doesn't even have that, because they allow free egress at all times.
