Designed to be used with mortise locks. The mortise cylinder body is round and threaded, allowing it to be screwed into the mortise lock. It is then secured with a set screw, usually located in the edge of the door, so that the mortise cylinder cannot be removed from the outside. Operating a key in a mortise cylinder moves a cam that is normally attached by screws to the rear of the cylinder.
