A cylindrical lock lock is very similar to a tubular lock (first definition). The design is slightly different in that the latch does not extend through the cross bore. The lock engage the strike at the edge of the cross bore. Cylindrical locks are typically more robust than tubular locks. Most commercial locks are cylindrical. Most residential locks are of tubular design.
